A long story of
competence, experience
and innovation
Since 1947, when Alessandro Molinari began to produce miniature fuses in a small workshop in Milan, to the present day with the steady guidance of Mario Ciboldi, the world may have changed but not the entrepreneurial path of industriousness, seriousness and success. Omega’s strategy since the beginning of its history has led it to be today the market leader of Mediterranean Europe that everyone knows and appreciates.
ORIGINS
1947 Alessandro Molinari began to produce fuses under the Weberlicense, in a small workshop located inside his apartment in Milan.
1952 The small workshop “left home” and found a new space in Milan, Alessandro Molinari also became a Weber agent and distributor and established the “Molinari Alessandro” company.
1960 The company grew and became a limited liability company, with a new and larger workshop. The last letter of the Greek alphabet that identifies the unit of measurement of electrical resistance was chosen as the name of the new company: this was how the Omega brand was founded.
1969 Mr Mario Ciboldi became part of the Company and it is also thanks to his contribution that a new production and commercial reality was created.
FROM PRODUCERS
TO DISTRIBUTORS
1981 Omega Fusibiliwas founded, which soon became the exclusive distributor of international brands and high-quality electronic goods: the journey in the field of “distribution” had begun.
1985 The new route brought with it a great and sudden development: the company moved to a better-equipped industrial area ready to host the new planned expansion.
1987 Omega Fusibili was now a nationally established company with a large and diversified catalogue, ready to trade with prestigious foreign companies. The current Omega brand was created in this spirit of renewal and expansion. From this moment on, it was to become the reference symbol of excellence in the supply of high-level components.
1988 The third Omega generation actively entered the company with Roberto Ciboldi.
1990 What today are 4 of the current 6 product ranges were outlined: Protection, Connection, Professional and Power.
1995 Several real estate, logistics and industrial investments were made. The company was ready for the new millennium.
FROM DISTRIBUTORS
TO GROUP
2001 To take advantage of a broader and more international market, the foreign headquarters was founded: Omega Composants sarl in Lyon, France.
2005 With a dynamic and far-sighted entrepreneurial vision, the acquisition of Italweber, a leading competitor in the electricity sector, took place. This is how the largest Italian group for the supply of components for electrical protection was created.
2006 To speed up the growth in the French market, Distelec, a major local distributor specializing in circuit board connection was acquired and subsequently integrated with Omega Composants.
2008 The need to complete the UL and BS fuses proposal led the company to acquire and, shortly after, incorporate Fusimport, a leader in the industry.
2009 The new Assago plant was opened with large sales, technical offices, and a fully automated warehouse of more than 4,000 square meters, which is still the most advanced of its type.
2010 The new Air Moving division was created, specializing in the promotion and sale of industrial fans.
2011 Italweber Elettra was created with the acquisition of three major transformer manufacturers. Today the company is a reference point for the Italian market and is a leader in the production of low and medium voltage transformers.
2013 The expansion also continued in France and therefore the new headquarters in Lyon was opened, more modern and efficient and with an area of more than 1500 square meters.
2014 Omega Fusibili marked a new investment: the acquisition of Fusit, which was incorporated shortly after. The extraordinary synergy between the two companies has brought an efficient internal reorganization with it that has given rise to an important integration of product ranges.
2015 The assortment of products became even wider; thanks to the acquisition of a branch of another Italian company that distributes miniature lever switches. Omega Fusibili, therefore, became a distributor for the Italian market of the Apem brand.
2016 – 2017 The new general catalogue was presented with which Omega Fusibili completed the process of integration of products resulting from the different acquisitions. In the same years, Omega obtained the ISO9001 – 2015 certification.
2018 Omega Fusibili acquired Fancos, a historic Milanese company of the Fantini Cosmi group operating in the automation sector. This further step forward allowed for a new expansion of the already rich range of products.
2019 Ocmei, a company specializing in safety in the electrical sector that became part of Italweber, was acquired.
On November 2019 Omega Fusibili S.p.A. signed the acquisition of the Spanish company ERMEC, a distributor of electronic and electromechanical components based in Barcelona with more than 25 years of experience in Spain and Portugal.
